Digital Education For Development (DEFOD) is a non-profit making, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered under the NGO act no 24 of 2002, with certificate of registration number OONGO/R/5590 in November 2023. The organization is based at Mutukula, Misenyi, Kagera Region, Tanzania.
Digital Education for Development (DEDO) was established to respond to the growing need for accessible digital knowledge, practical technology skills, and innovation-driven opportunities among young people and communities in Tanzania. The organization recognizes that digital transformation is no longer optional; it is a foundation for quality education, economic participation, social inclusion, improved service delivery, and sustainable development.
DEDO exists to bridge the gap between communities and useful technology. It promotes digital literacy, technology-enabled learning, innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical digital solutions that help individuals and institutions improve performance, expand access to information, and create dignified livelihoods.
The organization is especially committed to women, girls, youth, learners with different abilities, schools, local communities, and institutions that need support to participate fully in the digital age. Through training, partnerships, systems support, innovation activities, and community engagement, DEDO seeks to ensure that technology becomes a tool for empowerment rather than exclusion.
Vision: A Tanzania where digital literacy, digital opportunity, and technology-enabled learning are easily accessible to all.
Mission: To facilitate digital education and practical technology skills among women, girls, youth, and people of different abilities so that they can create opportunities, generate income, and improve their quality of life.
Goal: To use technology to improve the quality of education and digital awareness in Tanzania while promoting inclusive, relevant, and sustainable opportunities for youth, communities, and institutions.
Core Belief: DEDO believes that strategic investment in digital education, local innovation, and inclusive access to technology can raise standards of living, strengthen institutions, create jobs, and accelerate community development.
